New homes inspired by industrial heritage launch at Timber Works
Timber Works, a new community inspired by the site’s history as a timber yard and sawmill, will be unveiled this weekend on the 31st October, with a collection of contemporary one- and two-bedrooms apartments and three- and four-bedroom houses the first to launch.
The first homes at Timber Works form part of the wider 295-home development at Cromwell Road in Cambridge. This new neighbourhood is tailored to encourage community interaction, with a 50-place nursery and landscaped central park that give plenty of opportunities for neighbours to come together.
Located on the doorstep of many of the houses, residents can spend time discovering the impressive central park, while avid explorers can visit the 49.3-hectare Coldham’s Common and its wildlife trail, which is just a four-minute cycle away and sits alongside Coldham’s Brook. For those who prefer spending time in their own outdoor space, each of the homes at Timber Works include either a private garden, balcony, terrace or winter garden.
The architecture at Timber Works has a distinctive look that reflects the area’s industrial heritage. Drawing on the site’s former usage as Ridgeon’s timber yard which dates back over 100 years, the brickwork includes a striking mix of light and colour tones to represent the textual quality of the sawn and stacked timber, with the façade of each brick adapted to look like the grain typically found on timber.
Every property boasts elegant interiors, calm neutral tones and large windows which maximise natural light throughout the homes. Stylish and contemporary kitchens are designed to complement each individual house type and include energy efficient appliances, while luxurious bathrooms feature stylish vanity tops and matching bath panels along with Hansgrohe taps and showers. Underfloor heating is incorporated into each apartment and to the ground floor of the houses, providing comfort to homeowners during the colder months.
Residents wanting to reduce their carbon footprint have access to electric car charging points and cycle stores, which are likely to prove popular with Cambridge market square just a 11-minute cycle away. Timber Works is also just a three-minute cycle from Mill Road, a vibrant, mile long stretch of independent cafes, quirky shops and restaurants and is one of Cambridge’s most vibrant, creative and cultural destinations. The road includes mouth-watering independent eateries and coffee shops such as Masterchef finalist Alex Rushmer’s Vanderlyle, Scott’s All Day and 5 Blends, the Mill Road Butchers, quirky boutiques such as the Relevant Record Shop, ‘Life on a Bike’ for those all-important cycling purchases, and Timber Work’s sister development, Ironworks.
The homes are an eight-minute cycle from Cambridge train station, offering direct trains to London King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street. They are also just around the corner from many business parks and international business headquarters for companies such as AstraZeneca. For keen walkers and cyclists, Timber Works is also near the Chisholm Trail, which will prioritise the safety of cyclists and pedestrians by providing a mostly off-road and traffic-free route between Cambridge railway station and the new Cambridge North station.
Our latest new homes in Cambridge are inspired by the site’s historic setting, which saw four generations of the Ridgeon family grow their timber business. We’re now excited to see first-time buyers, families, couples and downsizers alike put down roots here at Timber Works and watch as it transforms into a thriving community, complete with a nursery and green open spaces where residents can enjoy meeting their neighbours. As our new homes are just a short walk from both the city centre and Cambridge’s sought-after Mill Road that offers a treasure trove of independent restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops, we know that our residents will love living here.
Delivered by the Cambridge Investment Partnership LLP (CIP), a partnership between Cambridge City Council and award-winning housebuilder Hill, Timber Works will have in total 177 homes for private sale, comprising one- and two-bedroom apartments, and two, three- and four-bedroom houses.
