Upcycled Easter-themed Tablescape and DIY Crafts with The White Thistle
Homeowners are increasingly looking towards upcycling and DIY interior design trends to add their own stamp to their homes on a budget. We have recently partnered with interior expert and stylist, Abi Hugo, also known by her online blog and social media account, @thewhitethistle. With her love of upcycling, neutral colours and sustainable interiors, Abi spends her time motivating others to be their own DIY-hero.
For a fun-filled Easter campaign, we tasked Abi to create a memorable, attainable and striking tablescape, to create an exciting look which others could recreate and add their own twist.
We spoke to Abi to discover where her fascinating passion for all things interiors comes from, and her top tips for creating an Easter tablescape look…
I always feel that aspirational home décor stalls are a great place to get ideas, but they can often feel unattainable. With this tablescape, I wanted to create something that looked high-end and beautiful but was in fact something you could recreate easily.
My personal style is neutral colours; not minimal but wonderfully subtle. I used this to create an elegant and practical tablescape whereby the design was impactful, but diners would still have space to sit comfortably and see one another across the table. I opted for design elements which could be used time and time again (even the eggs are versatile). I also used different textures including natural linens, ribbed glasses and eucalyptus which work well for all occasions.
Interior design, DIY and styling has always been in Abi’s roots and has been passed through the generations. Having spent her childhood surrounded by renovation projects, Abi was not intimidated by a do-it-yourself project. With her husband, she has successfully renovated three properties including their current house which they bought in 2020.
Gaining lots of inspiration from the outdoors, Abi incorporates the likes of pampas and olive trees into her home. Describing eBay and Facebook Marketplace as untapped resources, Abi sees upcycling as the perfect option, both for helping reduce the amount of furniture that goes to landfill, but also to get beautiful pieces for free or for bargain prices.
