On the 8 of March 2025, we celebrated International Women's Day (IWD). A day to honour the incredible achievements, resilience, and strength of women around the world. Since Hill’s founding in 1999, we have fostered a culture where ambition is nurtured, skills are sharpened, and careers are elevated for everyone.

We are proud to share the experiences of some of our inspiring female colleagues, their personal ambitions and their perspectives on the support they have received at Hill. Hill is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where women can thrive and advance their careers with vast and exciting opportunities.

Salma Khan – Social Value & Community Manager

Social impact is at the heart of our business, and Salma makes sure that our commitment to excellence goes beyond bricks and mortar. Since joining in 2022, she has played a pivotal role in fostering connections with local communities, creating job opportunities, and delivering transformative initiatives.

"No two days are the same in my role, and that’s what I love. Working at Hill has given me a platform to champion diversity and inclusion, not just within the company but in the wider communities we engage with."

Amelia Hayward-Dunn – Customer Service Manager

From apprentice to mentor, Amelia’s journey at Hill is one of continuous growth and giving back. Since 2016, she has risen through the ranks, becoming a champion for diversity and a mentor to aspiring professionals—particularly women entering the construction industry.

“Supporting and empowering others has been a defining part of my career. Since 2022, I've mentored 19 candidates through the Women into Construction partnership, 90% of whom have been from BAME backgrounds. Seeing them thrive is the most rewarding part of my role.”

Daniella Appiah-Kubi – Trainee Site Manager

Daniella was introduced to Hill at a school careers presentation, and a subsequent work experience placement opened her eyes to the dynamism of the industry, the tangible impact of building communities, and the rewarding nature of seeing projects come to life.

“Hill came in to talk about who they are, the job prospects in the construction industry, the application process, and how to gain access to the field. At that time, construction wasn’t something I had considered, but after gaining some work experience, I quickly realised how much I loved it. The dynamic environment, meeting new people every day, and seeing projects come to life really made me fall for the industry. I was fortunate to have an interview with Hill, which led to me being offered work experience with them.”

Skye Maclean – Trainee Site Manager

Skye has always set her sights on the industry, from studying construction at a specialist engineering college to joining Hill's Management Trainee Apprenticeship scheme.

“I was the only woman in the site office when I started, which was daunting at first. But I was never treated differently - I felt supported from day one. Balancing work, university, and my responsibilities as a carer for my mum is challenging, but Hill has helped me every step of the way.”
