First-year-trainees

At Hill, we work hard to invest of the future of the construction industry and believe that younger generations are key in addressing the industry’s skills shortage – which is why we are extremely proud that this year, we were able to welcome our largest Management Trainee intake to date.

31 new trainees joined our team last week, bringing the total amount of trainees we have welcomed to Hill to over 160. The Management Trainee Programme, which has been in place since 2003, has seen many students graduate and progress their careers at Hill, and we look forward to seeing our newest trainees start their construction careers.

The programme allows trainees to gain valuable on-the-job experience, while working towards a BSc (Hons) degree over the course of five years. They will train as Site Managers, Contract Surveyors, Development Surveyors, Technical Coordinators, Estimators and Architectural Technicians with guidance from Hill’s experienced construction professionals across a variety of regions.

I joined the Hill Management Trainee programme as I wanted to pursue a career as a contract surveyor, but wasn’t sure that attending university full time was the best option for me. The programme has offered me the opportunity to obtain a degree, whilst also benefiting from the on-the-job training that you wouldn’t get from full-time education

Daniel Turner, a Trainee Contract Surveyor now entering his second year with Hill

Since joining Hill, I have gained a great deal of knowledge within the industry, and have put it to test whilst at university. The programme has enabled my confidence to grow profoundly, allowing me to engage with consultants professionally.

Another of our trainees, Jack Gregory, a Trainee Technical Coordinator currently located at Athena, reflecting on his first year

In my first year with Hill I have gained a valuable experience whilst also working for a BSc Hons degree in construction management. I have been given the opportunity to rotate through different departments which gave me an appreciation of how the company works beyond my role.

Erin Coltman, a Trainee Site Manager in our Eastern region

Hill’s high-quality training allows youth in the industry to gain key skills and experience that will kick-start their construction careers.

There is a clear path of progression within Hill, and already I am gaining more responsibilities. I look forward to learning and experiencing more each day I work.
