Supporting our future talent by providing Ellen with Site Manager experience
Ellen was referred to Women into Construction via a family friend who works for Hill. On the WiC programme, Ellen received information, advice and guidance and training to gain her CSCS card as a starting point to open up further opportunities in construction.
Ellen had experience in an administration role in the industry but was looking for support into a trainee site manager role.
On completing her CSCS card, WiC worked with Hill to arrange a practical work experience placement. Ellen spent two weeks on Hill’s Cambridge Investment Partnership’s site, The Meadows in Cambridge.
During this placement, Ellen shadowed the Senior Site Manager and enjoyed meeting and working with subcontractors whilst understanding the daily tasks performed by a site manager. The team at The Meadows were impressed by Ellen’s hard work and determination and put Ellen forward to be interviewed by Hill for a Site Assistant role.
WiC supported with application and interview advice, and after a successful interview, Ellen was offered the role and started on Hill’s Mill Road site in Cambridge in October 2021.
Ellen has shown great determination and passion for working in the industry and will now be a trailblazer for career changers looking for an opportunity to use their transferrable skills to become site managers. Well done, Ellen.
When I got in touch with Shelley from WiC she was very helpful and supportive, she was incredible encouraging and would always make sure I had all the necessary help and guidance require to meet my goals. I had never heard of WiC before talking to a friend who works for Hill, but the amount of support I have received is beyond what I expected. This has been a journey that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve without the help from WiC, especially Shelley.
